A Legacy Lives On

Despite an amazing time in South Bend this past weekend we did receive some very sad, unexpected news...Chris' grandpa had passed away. Words cannot express how sorry I felt for my husband when he heard his dad on the the other end of the phone. All of his life his grandparents have lived just down the street and around the corner. With his moms family being so big there's always a need to get together and celebrate something and every time, his grandfather would be there. So to know that he was gone so suddenly and that Chris didn't get to say goodbye one last time was hard to take. Time between grandmas passing and now Grandpa had become a man of few words and when you did get him to talk it was only about what he wanted to talk about...The Lords Ladle! You'd say how was your day grandpa and he'd reply, today at the the Lords Ladle we severed 116 people!! He loved his church and his church loved him. He was one of the oldest members who sat in the same seat for over 20 years. We had always heard stories of how he had prayed for this person and that but never did we truly know how many he had affected until the day of the funeral. As a family Chris mom and siblings thought it would be appropriate to allow members of the congregation stand and reflect on their moments with Mr Cone. Little did they know how many would stand and give their testimony. You couldn't help but cry from all of the stories of where this loving man had sacrificed his time to love for someone else. They were stories that everyone would hope to have spoken about them when they pass away. As a family we were very moved. We knew that he would never be forgotten by us and now we knew he would never be forgotten by the church as well. It's definitely been sad not having him around but in the end we all know he's happy, dancing with grandma and planning bible studies with all the other angels...watch out St Peter there's a new greeter in heaven!! I used the picture above so you could see that the bald head was from his genes and that his legacy will live on forever in his sons, grandsons and maybe even his great grandsons!! We love and miss you gramps. Yeah God!! :)
